Experience life in one of France's most beautiful villages
Welcome to Séguret, an exquisite Provencal "Village Classé" (officially one of France's most beautiful villages) that will take your breath away, as will its views. This medieval village is preserved in time: flowers abound while vegetation creeps up the cracks of stone walls and meanders over the terra cotta tiles, decorating buildings dating back a thousand years.
At the southern end of the village, our studio with its elevated natural stone terrace overlooks vineyards and the Rhone Valley. Originally designed as an office/living studio by and for a renowned architect, our home occupies the lower portion of a handsome villa. Recent major renovations re-purposed the office area, allowing for more spacious and comfortable open-plan living. Comfortable and quiet, our studio is ideal for a couple's romantic getaway in Provence. Elevated along the side of a small mountain near Les Dentelles de Montmirail, Séguret is crowned by the ruins of a feudal chateau. A sprinkling of art galleries and restaurants offer art and cooking class possibilities, always with exquisite views. Séguret will enchant you, as it does us.
Quiet country lanes abound, ideal for walks and bicycling, offering unusual beauty in every direction. A quiet 1.9 km stroll brings you to Sablet, where all your basic needs are well provided for. Two bakeries, a fine grocery, butcher, flower shop, an unhurried Friday market plus an electric assist and bicycle rental shop await you there. Séguret, Sablet plus nearby Rasteau, Roaix and Gigondas are all renowned for their Cote du Rhone Villages AOC wines. You'll never manage tastings at all the wineries, but rest assured, none will disappoint.
The jewel of Roman Provence, Vaison-La-Romaine with its backdrop of Mont Ventoux and sprawling Tuesday market, is 8 kms away. Its 2,000 year old Roman city with amphitheater, fascinating ruins and museum give a clear understanding of the privileges of Roman life. Cross the 2,000 year old bridge to explore the enchanting medieval "Haute Ville" on the opposite bank of the Ouvèze River before enjoying a picnic at water's edge or in one or another of the many fine eateries. An endless array of beautiful Provencal villages are close by; Nyons, Brantes, Crestet, Gigondas, Malaucène, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, L'Isle-sur-La-Sorgue, Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, and if you prefer larger cities, Orange, Avignon and Nîmes are only a little further.
